Summer Sports: Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Riverhounds, & Washington Wild Things

Summer is just around the corner and if you live in the Pittsburgh area or are planning on a visit, there are a lot of fun sports to watch. In addition to the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates, the region also has the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Soccer Team and the Washington Wild Things minor league Baseball Team. Each team celebrates the summer with special events for their fans. So, get your hats & sunscreen & find some friends to come enjoy all the summer sports that Pittsburgh has to offer!!

Pittsburgh Pirates

  • The Pittsburgh Pirates play at PNC Park, located on the North Shore of Pittsburgh. It was ranked the 2nd best MLB park in 2017 according to a Washington Post guide. They have many different events for the fans during the summer:

  • KIDS DAY- Join the fans for fun and games at the Family Fun Zone before the game & get a kid-friendly Pirates item at the gates for kids 14 & under with paid admission.

  • PUP NIGHT — Bring your pup to the game with the purchase of a Rooftop ticket.

  • ZAMBELLI FIREWORKS NIGHTS — Join the Pirates as they light up the sky & the downtown Pittsburgh skyline after select games with spectacular fireworks!

Pittsburgh Riverhounds

The Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC is an American professional soccer team based in Pittsburgh. The team was founded in 1999 and the team plays in the Eastern Conference of the USL Championship, the 2nd tier of the American soccer pyramid. The games are played at Highmark Stadium in the historic South Side. The team offers their fans many different & exciting events to make each game a memorable experience. Some events include:

  • Yinzer night

  • Family Fiesta Night

  • Pride Night

  • Community Heroes Night

  • Throwback Night

  • Youth Sports Night

Washington Wild Things

The Washington Wild Things are a professional baseball team based in Washington, PA (just south of Pittsburgh). The Wild Things are a member of the Frontier League, an independent league which is an official partner of the MLB. The team offers their fans many exciting events during or after their games such as:

  • Senior Slugger Program

  • Thirsty Thursday

  • Fireworks Friday

  • Bucket Hat Giveaway

  • Kids Eat Free Sunday
