Things to Do In Pittsburgh During the Holidays
The air is getting crisper and businesses are getting merrier, which means it must be the holiday season! Each year the city of Pittsburgh has a multitude of events that will get you in the mood for the holidays. Whether you’re a Yinzer or not, here are some of our suggestions for things to do in Pittsburgh for the season:
1: Phipps Conservatory
Visiting the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens will be like you are in a winter wonderland. There are trees covered in lights and snow, gingerbread, and much more (Nov. 17-Jan. 7). With ample parking and festive lights throughout Oakland, this is a wonderful and accessible location on our holiday tour.

2: The Pittsburgh Zoo
The Pittsburgh Zoo becomes bright as the animals turn into lights. This attraction displays a wide variety of animals through different colors of lights. You also have the choice to stay in the comfort of your car and drive through the zoo to see the lights. Or you can take a nice long stroll with that special someone, and make memories that they won’t forget (Nov. 24 - Dec. 30). For more information on tickets, click here.
3: Market Square
Want to go Ice Skating? Why not go downtown to The UPMC Rink at PPG Place. Each year, there is a big outdoor ice skating rink where you can take in all the holiday fun! You can see all the Christmas lights as well as the giant Christmas Tree, which is lit up in the middle of the ice rink. You are actually able to skate around it, which is pretty cool, and overall a good experience! This is also a great date activity for the wintertime (Nov. 17 - Jan. 7).
Don’t have skates? No problem! You can rent them there, as well as grab some hot chocolate and snacks.
Along with the ice skating rink, just to the right of this spot in the middle of Market Square are the annual holiday pop-up shops. These shops are the perfect opportunity to grab some gifts for the holiday season. Take a stroll downtown before you head out to dinner. These festivities will take place until January 7th.
Winter is here! Go outside and have some festive fun!
