Consumer $ense Investigates: Finding the Best Fish Fry in Pittsburgh

By Dr. Audrey Guskey

Ahoy Mateys! It’s YOUR CAPTAIN GUSkey😉

It is Oh-FISH-ally HERE!!!   The FISH FRIES have begun!  HURRAY!

My family and I go to a different fish fry each week. I wanted to “catch” you up on our FISH CHRONICLES.

On Ash Wednesday (also Valentine’s Day) we went to St. Alphonsus Hall in McDonald.

In addition to the usual fish sandwich (which was delicious😊) they had amazing homemade pierogies, mac ‘n cheese, green bean casserole, 2 bean salad, and potato soup. So sorry to disappoint, but they only served fish on Ash Wednesday and Friday, February 16☹ Maybe next year for you. But within St. Isodore the Farmer Parish, you can go to Our Lady of Lourdes Hall at 1109 Main St., Burgettstown, PA.

Friday, February 16 we went to my home parish Corpus Christi at St. Barbara’s Hall.

They don’t do it every week but they are doing it on March 1st and 15th. The fish is beer batter and yummy. Buns from Mancini’s. You can’t beat Mancini’s bread😊 Their signature sandwich is Knight’s Feast (after our awesome Knight of Columbus who work the FF with the Columbiettes). It is a Primanti’s sandwich with the fries and slaw. A must try – but plan on taking half of it home because it is a two-meal delight. And our youth group serves you, so you get EXCEPTIONAL service!

Friday, February 23 we were DELIGHTED with St. Albert the Great in Baldwin.

It is ALWAYS our favorite FF by far – they had us at homemade donuts right off the fryer. But it gets better… Their crab cakes taste like they got the crabs that morning from the Atlantic. I love the orange juice and herb baked fish. It literally melts in your mouth. The pierogies are homemade. They have tuna salad on a croissant. Their pizza tastes like Catholic grade school pizza, which we all loved. And how about beer and buttermilk. YUM! I can go on and on….YOU HAVE TO GO the St. Al’s. The line is obscenely long, but it moves so fast and you can do what I did - eat a dozen donuts while you wait.

This Week we head to Saints Simon & Jude on Greentree Road. Look for a report soon. Happy fishing to you.
